Balaton Sound: music paradise at the biggest lake in Central Europe

The festival season of 2018 has already started in Europe, including Hungary, which in the past years has escalated into one of the most important countries of summer and other festivals. The VOLT Festival just finished in Sopron** last weekend, with such names like Depeche Mode, Iron Maiden and Limp Bizkit performing. More than 152,000 people visited the windy town of loyalty during the five days, yet it’s only the third biggest and most important festival for the residents of the historical treasure in the heart of Europe. Balaton Sound though, starting on Wednesday, 4th July, is a true music paradise at the biggest lake in Central Europe**, Lake Balaton. It will be on for five days alike, and I am now going to show you why the electric music lovers are so obsessed with it.

I don’t want to tease you, but first and foremost let me introduce the festival’s relatively short story that started in 2006. The scene is Zamárdi, where the 31st EFOTT Festival, another cultic Hungarian music festival, was being held. The organizers in the process found that place so ideal for a summer festival, that they sorted out the idea of a regular event for every successive year. In the following 2007, a newer summer festival got held, called Balaton Sound, that has been held in Zamárdi ever since.

It was an instant and immediate success, as loads of people gathered together from the very first Balaton Sound. It took only five years for the festival to win the prestigious European Festivals Award in the best middle-sized festival category in 2013 (the awarded fest was the one from the previous calendar year). Now it’s 2018, and the 12th Balaton Sound is about to happen in the town of Zamárdi, only 10 km from Si[ófok, the Hungarian Ibiza](https://www.livetheworld.com/post/siofok-the-hungarian-ibiza-bhf6).

The biggest show so far

This year, the organizers expect 160,000 people to come from Wednesday to Sunday, which could be a record number. Since the Festival is situated right on the Balaton’s shore, the visitors are free to bathe during the day, though it’s forbidden after 8 pm due to safety reasons. Interestingly, only the main stage was built by 150 people for one whole week. The structure of it was transported from Belgium by 41 trucks.

The headliners and biggest names of the Balaton Sound this year will be Alesso, Axwell & Ingrosso, Big Sean, The Chainsmokers, David Guetta, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, DJ Snake, Eric Prydz, Jonas Blue, Martin Garrix, Martin Solveig, Oliver Heldens, Rita Ora, Sven Väth, Timmy Trumpet and Ty Dolla Sign. I think, I don’t even have to go on, as the line-up speaks for itself. As it can be seen, not solely electric music lovers will find the concerts of their taste in Zamárdi, but also those who are fonds of hip-hop.
