Braslav Lakes National Park: “the blue necklace” of Belarus

History

Firstly, the **Braslav Lakes **Recreation Center was opened in 1958. In the 19th century, local aristocrats had their summer houses in this territory. Braslav Lakes National Park was established in 1995, and it is located 250 km away from Minsk. It is spread over 70 thousand hectares that unite different kinds of lakes. The main aim of creating the national park was to protect the natural landscape and keep flora and fauna safe. The government of Belarus also wanted to make this place attractive to tourists and create healthy conditions for locals. Nowadays, the park is a unique site where you can see wild and primeval nature. 

Braslav Lakes today 

The administration of the park is located between the lakes of Drivyaty and Novyato. The largest lakes are Drivyaty, Strusta, and Snudy. The shapes of the lakes are extraordinary, and they create many picturesque semi-islands. The ancient glacier left beautiful stones of different sizes on this place. There are around 30 species of fish, more than 200 of birds and many other sorts of animals in Braslav.
