Copacabana, the most famous beach in the world

Who has never heard about Copacabana Beach? Who has never dreamed of visiting Copacabana, walking through the famous Portuguese stone boardwalk, and diving in the waters of the most famous beach in Rio de Janeiro? Yes, Copacabana is all this and a bit more. It is the main touristic destination in Brazil, and I'll explain why.

First of all, Copacabana is not just a beach, it is a whole neighborhood located in the southern zone of the city of Rio de Janeiro, the cradle of modern Brazilian culture. It also borders the neighborhood of Lagoa, Ipanema, Botafogo, Leme, and Humaitá. Also, it is full of restaurants, bars, cafes, hotels, etc.; everything made to host tourists in the most comfortable way. One of the most famous building there is the Copacabana Palace**, the most traditional hotel in the city, opened in 1923. The building stands out for its elegance and grandeur, has hosted many national and international celebrities in their rooms.

But of course, the main attraction is the beach, where you can sunbathe and play beach sports during the day, and go for a walk on the boardwalk. Plus, there is always movement there, like people drinking beer or juices (highly recommended by me), singing, eating, people walking and strolling, it is a place where anything can happen. Being in Copacabana Beach is like to be in an old movie, waiting for romance and adventures. At new years eve, for example, Copacabana transforms itself into a magical kingdom of joy.

Copacabana is also known for having an exciting nightlife, due to the large number of cinemas, pianos, and nightclubs that existed there until the late 1980s. Plus, in the late 1950s, Copacabana saw the birth of Bossa Nova, one of the most world-wide known Brazilian musical rhythms.

Through the 1990s decade, though, this bohemian life dimmed, with the numerous society transformations and changes. This changed again in this last decade when the government started to illuminate the strip of sand. It was a big success, and in summer you can see people playing soccer or volley at night, or just enjoying the beach waves.

Keep in mind that Copacabana beach is one of the main touristic attractions in Brazil. So even though there is a 4.15 km beach with the strip of sand reaches a width of 150m between the Atlantic Avenue until the water, the beach can be very crowded on weekends. So, to avoid this, I would recommend you to go there during weekdays.

Local tips: Don't forget to use sunscreen, the sun there can be very aggressive, depending on when you go. Another important thing, when you go there, bring Brazilian money (Real); even if they accept Euros or Dollars, they probably will overcharge you if you want to consume something there. Don't walk with your cellphone in your hands, or visible. Even though it is a touristic and safe place, you have to be cautious.

I hope you enjoy this place as much as I do. It is definitely an amazing and special spot on earth!!!
