It has three different phases to it; the street parties take place on the streets of Copenhagen during the daytime. At nighttime, the dance party is lead by international artists taking place at the clubs, hence the "Distortion Club" name. All those, are followed by "Distortion Ø"’, which is an all weekend open-air festival, organised close to the harbour and green areas of Copenhagen. Here you will be able to party until dawn with the company of talented international artists and DJs.
The international artists and DJs who will be part of the line-up for this year’s festival, come from all over the world, including U.S., Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, Italy, France, Canada, Bulgaria, UK, and Switzerland.
This year the party kicks-off on a Wednesday with a street party in Copenhagen’s hip district Nørrebro, which is followed by more partying in an indoor club. On Thursday, the festival moves over to Copenhagen’s Vesterbro district with a street party and a "club night". On Friday, the festival starts off with ‘Distortion Ø’ at the festival site and continues into late night partying at the city's clubs. For those of you, who still have additional partying stamina to spare, Saturday's events take place at the festival’s main site next to the harbour.
Alright now, Sunday for many is the day of rest, hence this day is dedicated only to "hygge" and in this case, to the more "Danish hygge". Perhaps you have come across the term hygge, which is hard to translate into one word. It’s a Danish concept and part of the Danish lifestyle. It’s a feeling of cosiness and wellbeing that you share with your friends, family and people around you. It’s not an event or a place; it’s more about the feeling one has in a nice, warm and cosy atmosphere.
This year the festival takes place from the 29th of May until the 2nd of June 2019. It’s still not too late to purchase your early bird ticket at 450 DKK (€60), or a pass that also includes camping for only 550 DKK (€75). Wait... did you say camping?! There is a camping area constructed for the days of the festival, located right next to ‘Distortion Ø’ , by the harbour.
The five-day pass will give you access to all events and parties, but you can also choose to buy an one-day pass and party like a rock star. If you wish, you may also volunteer during the festival, which will give you a fun experience and an insight to the backstage scene.
To get a real feel of the festival and the kind of vibe Copenhagen offers over the five days, check out the video below from last year’s event.
