If you are a summer person like me, and you are already looking forward to swimming, sunbathing, snorkeling and tanning in a paradisaical beach, then you need to keep reading about the most beautiful island in the Mediterranean Sea, Formentera. I am not exaggerating when I say that Formentera is indeed the most amazing island in the Mediterranean, since it represents the human concept of paradise, and looks like a Caribbean island. This small, flat island is located in the south of Ibiza and is the least populated Balearic island (around 12.200 inhabitants). Its closest point to the Iberian Peninsula is Denia, a city located in the pr[ovince of Alicante.](https://www.livetheworld.com/post/alicante-s-grand-castle-wn66)
Formentera is full of light, and it will allow you to enjoy turquoise water and incredible natural surroundings. There is no airport in Formentera, so the only way to get there is by a boat or by a ferry from a close port. Ibiza is probably the most common place to get a ferry that takes you to Formentera and there are plenty of companies and different prices. I recommend a company called Balearia, since the frequency of its ships and ferries is really high. Once you get to the port, Puerto de la Sabina, you will find different car rental companies, from which you can also rent cars, motorbikes or bikes. I fully recommend renting a bike to cycle around this small island and visit different coves and beaches. Formentera is also very flat like Valencia, the city where I am currently living, and so it is the perfect kind of scenario to cycle around.
Holidays in Formentera are the opposite of having a wild week on the island of Ibiza (check out this story about the real essence of Ibiza to read about a different aspect of this island), where the majority of its visitors go there mainly for the party and for the beauty of its beaches and coves. Formentera is a quiet island, where there is not much partying but plenty of hotels and restaurants. It is also quite an expensive island - take water with you if you go the beach, because buying a small water bottle from a beach bar cost me 8 EUR!
Formentera has 69 km of coastline in which you can find several idyllic beaches and fascinating cliffs. Two of its most beautiful beaches are Cala Saona and Ses Illetes. Cala Saona is surrounded by small and steep brown cliffs that contrast with the abundant vegetation and turquoise waters. This is the only beach located in the western part of the island, and it is consequently the best spot to enjoy a wonderful sunset.
Ses Illetes is without any doubt, the best beach you can find in the entire country and it is considered one of the best beaches of the world because of its transparent and crystalline water, the quality of its fine white sand with a characteristic pinkish tone and the privileged place where it sits. The Illetes beach is 450 meters long with a high degree of occupation (Formentara is particularly visited by Italians). The name of this wonderful beach is taken from the existence of several small islands and reefs that exist in the same area. It is also a very very shallow beach.
So don't miss the incredible Balearic Islands and its gem Formentera, a natural and quiet island which has one of the best beaches in the world!
