There are many protected areas in Georgia, and Mtirala National Park is one of them. It is located in the Adjara Region, and the park is the most humid area in our country. The park was established in 2006. The name itself* ‘Mtirala’ *translates to *‘crying’, *and it comes from the rainfalls that are very often in this place. If you love being in the middle of wild nature and enjoy camping, picnics, hiking, horse riding and such kinds of activities, this place is worth visiting.
Mtirala National Park is located in a lovely village Chaqvistavi. There is the park administration as well, that helps tourists to get to the visitor center. Mount Mtirala is located between the Black Sea and the *Adjara Mountain *system. It has a humid area, and it is made up of volcanic-sedimentary rocks. The park is famous with beautiful mixed forests where you can enjoy wild nature. Apart from the rare trees, there is also an amazing waterfall that can perfectly refresh you in the summertime. When it comes to the fauna of Mtirala National Park, there are brown bears, deers, eagles, and etc. According to the records, there are also Caucasian salamanders, toads, and vipers.
With the great support of the World Wildlife Fund, two tourist trails were built in the Mtirala National Park. The first trail is called ‘Tsablinari’, which means 'the chestnut forest'. The walking distance is around seven kilometers, and it is easy to hike. You can start this trail from the visitor center, where you will be informed about the educational and entertainment purposes of the path. If you choose this path, you will see two important sightseeing points - a 15-meter high waterfall and a lake. Imagine walking through the wild nature and enjoying the beauty of the gorge of the *Chakvistskali River. *You can use the camping area as well, that is located near the waterfall and also the picnic spots near the river.
The second trail is named ‘Tsivtskaro’, which translates to 'a cold spring' trail. You will need two days for this trip, and the forest in this path is characterized by the beech trees. You can also find the tracks of different kinds of animals, such as brown bears, chamois, deers, and others. This route takes you near the natural springs, where you can find the picnic area, tourist shelter, and fire pit. On the second day of the tour, you can see the untouched beech groves and walk in the wild nature little more. This trail can also be used for different scientific observations and explorations of the forest’s flora and fauna.
The best seasons to visit Mtirala National Park is spring, summer and early autumn. You can start your trip from the Visitors Center, as they will help you to organize the preferred tour, to find a good guide and the local transport. As I cannot express enough the beauty of these places by words, the best is that you explore it by yourself,** in the middle of wild nature. **
