The Jardin des Serres d'Auteuil, situated in the beautiful Bois de Boulogne, is a botanical garden where you can see an impressive collection of more than 4,500 species of plants from all around the world. Five greenhouses, designed and constructed at the end of the 19th century, are the real technical masterpieces. During the cold winters, Parisians just adore to visit those greenhouses and go for a walk among the palm trees and other tropical plants. This garden is open every day, even on January the 1st, and the entrance is free.

Impressive greenhouses

Created in 1761, under Louis XV, the Jardin des Serres d’Auteuil was completely rebuilt at the end of the 19th century. Today, this elegant garden is organized around a huge parterre in the traditional French style and five impressive greenhouses, designed and constructed from 1895 to 1898 by a French architect Jean-Camille Formigé. All five greenhouses (big greenhouse, east end west greenhouses, palm tree greenhouse and azalea greenhouse) are created in a typical architectural style of the 19th century. They all have an impressive cast iron frame stricture, painted in a blue-green color. The big greenhouse is a real technical masterpiece. Its nave is divided into three different spaces. One space contains a hot and humid tropical garden. Another one is a much drier place where palm tree are grooving. And, the third space is a less hot garden.

A collection of plants

The Jardin des Serres d’Auteuil is a real heaven for all gardens and plants lovers. The garden houses the collections of rare plants and remarkable trees from all around the world. The plants are grouped into thematic collections such as a collection of plants from the Sahel desert or plants from New Caledonia. This garden is also a home of many palms, ficus, philodendrons, begonias and many other spices and varieties of plants and trees. Among many remarkable trees in the Jardin des Serres d’Auteuil,** **you can also see Gingko Biloba, purple-colored Indian lilac, Pterocarya stenoptera, the biggest tree in the garden - Magnolia grandiflora with large fragrant white flowers. But one of the biggest attractions in this garden is a little pond inside the big greenhouse, where you can spot a magnificent koi fish.

Practical information

The Jardin des Serres d’Auteuil is open every day, even on January the 1st and on December the 25th. The opening hours are from 8 am to 5 pm, and from 9 am to 6 pm on weekends and holidays. The entrance is free. The guided tour is possible on a smartphone by downloading the Audiospot application.
