The MAK - Austrian Museum of Applied Arts / Contemporary Art is one of the most important museums of its kind in the world. Originally created as a sample collection, the unique collection of 1863 stands as "k. k. Austrian Museum of Arts and Industry "founded MAK until today for an extraordinary connection between applied art, design, architecture and contemporary art.
The MAK sees itself as a laboratory of social cognition and is a place of collecting, researching, preserving and mediating, interactive learning as well as encounter, interaction and intercreativity. Not least because of its international branches and its cross-border activities, it is a forum for intercultural and artistic exchange and fruitful dialogue with designers, artists and architects.
