**Start your journey on the right track at one of the most beautiful train stations in the world. **

Known as the Railroad Cathedral, this restored station is a great starting point when you’re arriving in Antwerp. It's easy to get caught up in the hustle & bustle of a train station, but here you can't help but stop and look at the marble decor, high glass windows, and stone archways. The outside and main hall are must-sees and are excellent photo spots.

So who can we thank for this gorgeous sight? Louis dela Censerie, a Belgian architect. He was heavily inspired by the Neo-Renaissance of the 16th century when Antwerp was at its height as a diamond port city. It really is known as one of the most beautiful stations for a reason!

  • King Leopold II of Belgium commissioned a ton of buildings, including Central Station in the late 1800s. It was a station built to be grand enough for a king.
  • The outside and main hall are the most impressive parts. Those are the restored original bits of the station, so no need to explore all 4 levels and 14 tracks to get the highlights.
  • There’s usually some interesting graffiti along the rails so keep your eyes peeled if you’re leaving/arriving by train.
  • Antwerp Central is also home to a waffle stand that’s popular with tourists. While it’s not bad, you can find quality authentic waffles elsewhere at Desire de Lille.
  • The station is very close to major attractions like Antwerp Zoo and a short walk away from Antwerp’s diamond district.
