Grab your camera and get ready to take shots of the 11th century picturesque Bornem Castle. Still owned by a Belgian noble family, the castle is a grand sight to see.
Built to protect the local town Bornem from Viking raiders in the 11th century, Marnix de Sainte Aldegonde Castle is one castle you need to photo. Owned by the Marnix de Sainte-Aldegonde family since the 1700s, the castle is actually a country house for a Count. Known as Bornem Castle to locals, this castle is only open to visitors on certain days in August and September, plus booked guided tours. While access to the inside of the castle is limited, it’s definitely worth dropping by to see this historic treat and stroll the grounds around it.
Enjoy the fairytale walk and wander the castle domain to discover calm woods and paths. Close to the Old Scheldt, enjoy the sounds of wildlife with the castle in sight.
Most days, visiting Bornem Castle isn’t as easy as just walking right in. We recommend checking the opening times before rushing over to see the inside of the castle. Make sure you check out the carriage museum for a majestic collection of horse-drawn carriages during the tour.

As I arrived at the lake in front of the Castle, it was actually very cloudy. We had to wait for an hour to get that beautiful sunrise and orange clouds. It’s worth waiting to get that perfect shot! The weather in Belgium can change very quickly.
