Are you here to capture all of Kortrijk on camera? You can’t miss Broel Towers. One of the iconic symbols of Kortrijk, these medieval towers are a sight to see.

Slap bang atop the river Lys, these two medieval towers are one of those spots everyone needs at least one photo of from their trip. Kortrijk has lots of photo spots, but not many have seen as much history as the Broel Towers.

The two towers look pretty much exactly the same, but they’re not even from the same century. The Southern Tower (Speyetoren) is from the 1300s, while the Northern Tower wasn’t built ‘til the 1400s. The more you know! History buffs should drop by to see these last remaining pieces of Kortrijk's medieval past.

  • Irony is Beautiful: walk along the bridge and see the statue of John of Nepomuk. He’s the patron saint of the drowned. However, the statue has ended up in the river more times than you’d think because of all the warfare on the bridge. So maybe not the best saint to pray to?
  • The Broel Towers and the bridge have actually been through a lot. Seriously, the bridge got destroyed in both World Wars.
