This new microbrewery is right under the railway in Borgerhout. Beer lovers will want to check out their top fermented beer

Cabardouche launched in 2019, so you’re really trying something new when you go here. But they started putting everything together back in 2012. They have a regular range of 3 top fermented beers and do a limited edition beer called Escort Delux each year.

Have you ever tried top fermented beer? It means that pure yeast is added to the beer before bottling to switch any remaining sugars into carbon and alcohol. After that's done, the beer is more delicate and complex tasting. The yeast goes to the bottom of the bottle. You can either leave it in the bottle or pour it into your glass.

  • The three beers they do are: Stout Mokke (black beer, 9%), Blonde Stoot (blond beer, 5%), REUS (blond beer, dry hop, 6.8%)
  • REUS was created for the Giant Parade in Borgerhout. It’s a 300 year tradition where people in costumes parade the city in floats for 4km.
  • REUS is exclusive at their shop and Reuzenvzw, so don’t miss it
  • Their limited edition Escort Deluxe beer is different each year so you get something unique each time
  • Close to Borger Bottles. This beer shop sells over 300 different craft beers
  • Borgerhout is actually the smallest district in Antwerp, but it’s got lots of life in it. Nearby Cabardouche you’ll find other entrepreneurs and hipster bars throughout the district
  • Why is it called Cabardouche? It refers to Antwerp’s cabaret. Napoleon numbered the cabaret houses. 12 was for brothels. Since they first got started in 2012, and serve snacks behind glass like cabarets, they decided to take on the name.
  • For even more beer, get out of the city to check out Duvel Moortgat Brewery or get local at Ginger Tipple
