Not just another castle, once home to the Princes of Chimay, this castle is now open to explore for all history buffs. Plus, you might just see the Belgian Princess Elisabeth.
This castle is more than 1000 years old and was traditionally the ancestral home of the Princes of Chimay. Whether you want all the history deets or to snap up photos of a proper medieval chateau, Chimay castle has something for you.
Once a simple medieval bastion, the castle was expanded in the 15th century to have five towers linked by fortified walls. In the 1930s it was damaged by a fire, prompting a renovation to complete the way the castle stands today. Now, you can visit five key rooms including the great hall, guard room, portrait gallery, chapel and theatre. To make your experience even more interactive, you can enhance your tour with a multimedia i-pad available in French, Dutch, German and English.
