Get your fill of the great Flemish painters at this popular art museum. Explore six centuries of Belgian art by Jan van Eyck, Pieter Bruegel the Younger, and many more.
Inside the old Eekhout Abbey, this museum is known for its collection of Flemish Primitive Art. Basically, that’s early art from Flanders of the 15th or 16th century. You’re gonna see some real treats from the medieval and renaissance era. While they’re known for their historical artworks, there’s actually some more recent art in here too, including stuff by Roger Raveel and René Magritte. If art and history are your thing, this museum is really worth a look.
At Groeningemuseum, you’re left to your own devices to explore the 10 rooms of art. Explore at your own pace with the free audio tour to get the lowdown on all the artworks. Take about an hour or two to really get the full experience. Once you’re done, relax in the little garden outside the museum for a nice view of the Church of Our Lady.
