One of the most well-known spots in all of Leuven at a crossroads. Admire old architecture and discover seasonal events.

  • Grote Markt Leuven lies in the centre of Leuven, in-between the City Hall, Saint Peter’s Church, and the Old Market. Don’t miss it! It’s one of those places every tourist visits for sure, but it’s still worth a look. The area is known for its famous Brabant Gothic style, which is definitely Insta-worthy. No matter where you are in Leuven, this place lives up to its name as the grand square.

  • Even though it’s located in one of the busiest areas of Leuven, the square is traffic free. No cars allowed! Casually stroll through here as a starting point for the rest of the upbeat student city.

  • This square has existed here since the 14th century in Leuven and is often used for different cultural events throughout the year. That includes the famous Flower Carpet, where the whole Grote Markt of Leuven gets transformed into a blooming, colourful carpet of flowers in unique designs.

  • Seasonal events: WIth the Grote Markt located in the heart of the student city, there are multiple events that happen throughout the year. Most notably is the Christmas market with over 140 stalls! Make sure to check out the winter garden in the Grote Markt for some Christmas flower power.
