A charming 16th century castle with some impressive Italian gardens.
A rare architectural gem! Belgium has lots of castles, but not many in the Mosan Renaissance style of the 16th century. Jehay is a 16th century moated castle known for its beauty and cute gardens. Once upon a time, the castle was owned by a local count.
Undergoing renovation: during renovations, you can’t visit the inside of the castle. Most of the castle is covered by scaffolds, but you can see some of it. Bright side: the gardens are open and the entry fee is reduced!
The gardens
Jehay Castle is a popular place to take a stroll in the gardens. There’s Italian gardens with lime trees, cute water features and more. Keep your eyes peeled for the copper statues in the gardens - some are weirder than others!
Jehay also has a veggie garden at the very edge. It dates back to the 19th century. These days, it’s protected by a charming wall. Explore the 1 hectare vegetable garden to discover fruit trees and pretty, edible flowers.
