A medieval castle in the charming village of Hargimont.

The doors of Château Jemeppe are only open to its B&B guests. But, if you're in the area, it’s worth dropping by for a peek of the charming medieval castle. The castle is sometimes called Hargimont Castle because it rests in the village of Hargimont. Escape into the quiet and charming countryside of Belgium!

Jemeppe Castle was built in the 13th century. Back in the day, it was home to the Lord of Velroux and other noble faly’s over the years. But it was left to ruin in the 20th century. Now it’s been fully restored, the castle is a luxury hotel, B&B, and conference location.

  • Castle architecture: Raes d'Ans, Lord of Velroux, did most of the expansion work in the 17th century by fortifying the castle, adding the square like look we see today, and the pretty double moat.
  • Don’t miss the restored gatehouse at the entrance.
  • Walk a bit towards Rue des Moutons and you’ll stumble onto the river that flows through the village.
  • Hargimont is a generally quiet village and there’s not too much to see here other than the pretty houses and village charm. We don’t recommend going out of your way to see Jemeppe Castle, but if you happen to be nearby or in Marche-en-Famenne, then it’s a hidden gem that should be on your list.
