**A contemporary art gallery in an abbey. A unique place just outside of Brussels. **

Are you in the countryside or are you still in Brussels? Red Cloister has a totally different feel to the busy city. Surrounded by the nature of its park and the nearby Sonian Forest in the Auderghem district, most come here for a relaxing walk or day out with the kids. One thing you shouldn’t miss, though, is the unique art centre inside the former abbey.

Art exhibits

Red Cloister has hosted tons of art exhibits on everything from comic art to illustration by Belgian artists and internationals. The art you’ll see here is contemporary - as in it’s happening right now. If you’re bored of the regular art galleries, Red Cloister offers up something different in a unique setting.

Great for artists to get inspiration! Some exhibits, like their outdoor summer art exhibit, are totally free. Others have a small entry fee, so check ahead to see what’s on

What to see

Red Cloister is in the centre of a park and cultural site. There’s tons for all ages to do.

  • More of a theatre nerd? Théâtre de la Parole do stage plays here. They also offer acting courses for adults and kids (mostly in French). Occasionally they hold outdoor theatre shows just outside the art gallery
  • The gallery is right next door to the Jean Massart Botanical Garden.
  • Kid friendly: the arts centre is close to the kids playground in the park.
  • Want to see the artists at work? Drop by Rouge-Cloître on the hazy Sunday afternoons to join the artist workshops and create jewellery, watercolour and more. Mostly in French.
