This sandy beach at the very edge of Antwerp has great views of the city and tons of summer fun. But whatever the season you’re sure to enjoy a walk here.

OK, so it’s not a sea beach. Saint Anna Beach is a beach of the Scheldt river that runs through Antwerp. It’s a bit sandy, a bit grassy, and a bit quiet in winter. You’re not allowed to go swimming in the river as you’ll get swept away by the strong currents. Let the river blow you away from a distance instead.

The beach is named after the village (St Anna) that used to be here. The village was known for their mussels and there’s some restaurants that still have them nearby the beach.

At St Anna Beach you’ll also find an outdoor swimming pool De Molen and lively BBQ spots in the summer. Still, even in winter it's a good spot to go for a walk especially when you’ve got a dog.

  • There’s great views of Antwerp from the beach here, especially at sunset the MAS (Museum by the River) looks fantastic
  • The grassy areas are great for a picnic in the summer. The locals do eat here as well. It’s not as touristy as some other outdoor spots, but keep in mind it is a bit smaller
  • Keep walking west and you can walk through the St Anna Forest (Saint Anna Forest). It’s a forest nature reserve that’s popular with dog walkers. Nature lovers will adore it too
