This Sundays-only local market in the theatre district has lots to offer - be sure to hit it up for street food and food shopping.

Street markets are popular in Antwerp. The Sunday Bird Market (Vogelenmarkt) started in the 16th century as a meat market, but as time went on it grew into its own thing. It’s basically a local market slap bang in Theaterbuurt (the theatre district). If you want to go browsing market stalls, Vogelenmarkt should be at the top of your list.

• You can find a bit of everything at this market, although it’s mostly known as the bird market. The Sunday Bird Market usually has jewellery stalls, fabrics, fresh fruit and veg, clothes, antiques, as well as birds. You name it, you can find it! Note that the Saturday market has more food stalls than the Sunday one.
• The market is actually in a great location. You’ve got lots of options for where to go next! You could stroll around the botanical gardens (Plantentuin) or just wander into the streets and stroll.

• The Msemen (Moroccan pancakes) stalls: (they’re usually close to the theatre) which are filled with goat cheese, honey, olives, sundried tomatoes, artichokes, etc. The line is long but goes quick!
