The Oruro Carnival is a religious and cultural festival celebrated in Oruro, Bolivia. A religious pre-colonial festivity used to be celebrated in the same place, formerly called Uro Uro. During the Colony Period, that celebration was banned, but, in order to insert Catholicism, religious pre-colonial celebrations were fusioned with the Catholic ones. That is how the ancient celebration was transformed to incorporate Catholic rituals and to be celebrated in honor of Virgin of Socavón, who, for this prupose, got related with the Uro Uro protectress, called Ñusta.
