A traditional olive oil mill was made up of two stones: one would serve as a basin, while the other had a hole in the centre for a shaſt to go through; rotating the shaſt would crush the olives. The pulp would go into large baskets and pressing it with a vice would be the final step in the olive oil extraction process. © iStockphoto/mrak_hr
