Check out the Hollywood of the East also known as Barrandov Studios on the outskirts of Prague.

Did you know Mission Impossible, the Bourne movies, and lots of other classics were filmed right here in the Czech Republic? Well, that’s all thanks to Barrandov Studios. Barrandov is actually one of the largest and oldest studios in Europe.

Test your movie knowledge on an English guided tour. Explore a set construction workshop and even explore a make-up room. If you’re a film buff and really want to know the exact movies that were filmed here in Prague and how then this tour is just right for you. Who knew Casino Royale was filmed right here in Prague?

You might be lucky enough and get to explore some hot sets. You may even bump into Ryan Reynolds or Ryan Gosling. You never know! I mean they are filming here this year (2021). Orlando Bloom was here in 2020 prior to the pandemic. At this rate, who knows who will be here in the future!

  • In Barrandov’s +80 years of existence over 2500 movies, local and international, have been filmed in Barrandov. Barrandov created a new exhibition space where the viewer can go behind the scenes of current film and television projects. So you may actually get to see a hot set after all.
  • During WW2 Barrandov was actually under the control of Nazi Germany and soon after the war, Barrandov was nationalised and remained under state ownership until the 1990s where it finally became privatised.
  • Barrandov has always been known as the Hollywood of the East because of its connection with American films. Over time it became a popular place to film big Hollywood movies and to this day it still is.

Tips and Tricks

  • Check out the Medieval Knights set located on the backlot of Barrandov if it’s open to the public on the day of your visit.
  • Good place to visit with a bigger group.
  • It’s good to book in advance and the English tours are only available on the weekend.

Getting There

  • By Car: 2 hours free parking available on site
  • By Tram: 12 minute walk from K Barrandov tram stop. Trams 4, 5, 12, and 20 stop here.
  • By Bus: close to the bus stop Filmové Ateliéry. Buses 105 and 230 stop here.
