Do you have a favourite animal? Maybe you’ll find it in Czech Republic's oldest zoo in Liberec!

If you like zoos, then this one is definitely worth checking out! Great for the whole family, Liberec Zoo is even older than the famous Prague Zoo in the capital of Czech Republic. Liberec Zoo goes back all the way to 1904 when this country existed under the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Bring the kids along for a great family day out at the zoo.

The zoo is quite famous for having animals from all corners of the world. You’ll be able to find animals such as the Golden Takin, Hamadryas Baboon, Kea, Barbary Lion, Red Panda, Asian Elephant, Reindeer, a lot of species of apes, Meerkat, Reticulated Python and of course, the very popular White Tiger.

During your adventure through the Liberec Zoo you will also be able to see the different projects they are working on around the world. The Zoo is currently focusing on reintroducing animals back into the wild. Their main areas are central Europe, East Africa, and South-East Asia.

So take your time and enjoy the animals, facts and information, and the food inside Czech’s oldest zoo.

  • The route through the zoo is roughly 2 km long. Take your time admiring all the different animals and projects going on at the zoo. Allow about 3 to 4 hours for your visit. It's an easy going stroll for the whole family.
  • There are many attractions for children in the zoo. There’s a wonderful playground, a climbing area, and even educational boards that share interesting animal facts with the children.
  • The zoo covers an area of 14 hectares where you can find over 160 different species.
  • The Liberec Zoo is also known for having the four biggest species of owls.

Tips and Tricks

  • After visiting the Zoo, you can walk along Riegrova and Masarykova streets, where you will come across restaurants, confectioneries, a tram route, a class full of architectural gems such as nineteenth-century villa houses, the North Bohemian Museum or the town spa.
  • There is a playground near the car park at the main entrance of the zoo
  • As part of a special program, anyone over the age of 18 can get to know first-hand what a zookeeper's working day looks like.
  • Save time and buy your ticket online! This also allows for a small discount.

Getting There

  • By Car: Cars and buses can be parked in the car parks near the zoo. One parking lot is near the rotation of the tram - a short walk from the entrance to the zoo. The other two parking lots are in Fibichova and Riegrova streets. Parking costs 50 CZK daily (6 hours).
  • By Tram: By Tram: a short walk from Lidové Sady - ZOO tram stop. Trams 2 and 3 stop here.
