Do you know Mucha? Even if you don’t, we bet you’ve seen some of his art before. It’s so unique and something the Czechs are very proud of!

You’ve probably seen a deck of playing cards, a calendar, or maybe a poster with the famous Mucha art on them. Well, now you’re in the country where it all started. The Mucha Museum is dedicated to the life and work of Alphons Mucha, the man behind this beautiful art.

If this is your first time seeing Mucha’s art, then we’re sure as soon as you leave the museum you will start to see it all over the city, in buildings and restaurants. Alphonse is famous for painting and drawing his signature Slavic Maidens covered in elegant clothes and jewellery. It may not be everyone's cup of tea but his artwork was very symbolic of its time and has stayed relevant over the decades.

Mucha’s art wasn’t only famous in the Czech Republic but it grew to countries like France and eventually found its way to New York and the rest of the world. Inside the museum, you’ll see how popular Mucha’s art really was and you may even fall in love with it too.

  • Mucha based most of his work on different cycles from the physical world such as seasons, times of day, and other real world themes. For this reason, Mucha gave his first set of decorative panels, made in 1896, the title The Four Seasons which was very fitting for his work.
  • Mucha’s work wasn’t only famous in the Czech Republic but made huge waves in Paris and all over France. Inside the museum, you will be able to find lots of his French inspired works.
  • Here is a list of everything you’ll come across while exploring the Mucha Museum: Decorative Panels; The Parisian Posters; Documents Décoratifs; The Czech Posters; Oil Paintings; Drawings and Pastels, Photographs and personal memorabilia of the artist.
