Explore all the different sights to see in Old Town Square, the most beautiful Square in the Czech Republic.

Welcome to the heart of Prague. Old Town Square is where you will find some of the most iconic buildings and monuments in Prague. Maybe you’ve already heard of some of them such as the Astronomical Clock and the viewpoint from the U Prince Terrace.

We recommend just walking around Old Town Square and exploring all the different buildings. You can access most of these historic buildings for a small fee. One of our favourites is the view from the Old Town Hall. You end up at the top of the tower overlooking the square and the church. If there’s ever a Kodiak moment, this is it!

Galleries, markets, museums, and beautiful architecture can all be found in and around Old Town Square. There’s so much history in this little square that every time you come back and visit the area you see something new or find a new little cafe or museum that you’ve never seen before.

  • Christmas market: Old Town Square is known to have one of the most beautiful Christmas markets in all of Europe. One of the most magical feelings is exploring the market in the evening with a cup of hot wine with Christmas carols playing in the distance.
  • The Astronomical clock is one of the main attractions in the square. At the top of the hour, you may see tourists gathering around it and that is because of the little show the clock puts on.
  • The history of the square dates back to the 10th century. It was known as being a popular trading post at the time because of its central location in Europe. The name has changed over the centuries but since the late 1800s the name “Old Town Square” has stuck.
  • Back in the day, cars, trams, and busses could go to Old Town Square but over time they transformed it into what it is today where only pedestrians can walk around the square.
