An Eiffel Tower look-alike, famous in its own right. Petřín Lookout Tower overlooks Old Town Prague and all of Bohemia.
Ever been to the Eiffel Tower? The Petřín Lookout Tower might give you some déjà vu. It’s almost identical. Sure, it doesn't stand out as much as the Žižkov TV Tower but it has nice views at the top and wherever you are in Prague, you’ll see the Lookout Tower towering over you. Located at the top of Petřín Hill, you’re never quite sure what the tower is at first sight. Is it an electrical tower? Is it just a landmark? We’ve got all the answers.
Well, it turns out it’s actually one of the most famous viewpoints in Prague because of the panoramic 360-degree views you get from the top of the tower. If you’re daring enough to walk up all the stairs to the top and see the city from above then go for it! Prague is known as the city of 100 spires and the viewpoint will confirm why that name was given to the city of Prague.
Once you’ve taken in the view you can go back down to the park and explore the area. A church, a hall of mirrors, and a few cafes make Petřín Hill a great place to spend an afternoon.
- Mini Eiffel: the tower was actually designed and inspired by the Eiffel Tower, (shocking right?). It looks pretty much identical to it but just at a much smaller scale (1:5). Petřín is 63.5m high.
- On a clear day, you can see nearly all of Bohemia all the way over in the west, super far away.
- Get your running shoes on because it’s 13 flights and 299 stairs to get to the top!
- Origin story: a group of Czech tourists who visited Paris actually came back to Prague, collected a bunch of money, and put the project in motion to build a tower similar to Eiffel in the 1800s. Petřín was used as an observation tower back in the day.
- The area around the tower is filled with trails, gardens, and historic monuments that can be explored.
Tips and Tricks
- Try and go on a clear day so you get an awesome panoramic view from the top
- Bring some good walking shoes
- Student discounts are offered
- You can take a cable car from the bottom of the Petřín park and up to the tower
- Since you’re in the area you might as well go explore the famous Prague Castle after you’ve seen it from above
- Mid to late April is the perfect time to go if you want to see some cherry blossom (the park below is FULL of trees)

- By Tram: 15 minute walk from Pohořelec stop. Tram 22 stops here.
- By Bus: 13 minute walk from Nemocnice pod Petřínem stop. Bus 194 stops here.
- By Cable Car: 3 minute walk from Petřín stop. Tram 22 stops at the cable car stop Újezd.
