Go take a stroll along one of the oldest stone bridges in all of Europe, Pisek Stone Bridge.

Yup, the small city of Southern Bohemia, Pisek, has one of the oldest bridges in Europe! Look familiar? You get a bit of a deja vu walking across the bridge because it feels like a small version of the Charles Bridge in Prague. But the Pisek bridge has its own charms too that makes it worth a visit. One of the differences is all the small cute colourful buildings that you can see from the stone bridge in Pisek.

From the stone bridge, you can get to a few cool spots in Pisek. There is a nice walking trail on the west side that leads to a little island with mini golf and a restaurant. And to the east side of the bridge, you will find Old Town Pisek with a bunch of restaurants, cafes, and even the Pisek Castle.

  • Historians don’t actually know exactly when the bridge was built but they have an idea that it was sometime in the 13th century.
  • Many people do compare it to Charles Bridge. Even the way the structures were built resemble Charles Bridge. So it’s also been given the name “Small Charles Bridge”.
  • The bridge became an important link between the Mediterranean and the Baltic states during the Golden Trail days.

Tips and Tricks

  • On the west side of the bridge, you will find Cafe Mozart. On the outside of the building, you will find an arrow that shows how high the flood of 2002 went. All of downtown was flooded. Thankfully the bridge survived even though it was completely under water.
  • From the bridge, don’t forget to explore the little island nearby.
  • A great place to explore on a warm sunny day.
