An art building set up in a former spa? Welcome to the 5th largest art gallery in the Czech Republic!

This former spa and now art museum is absolutely gorgeous from the outside. There’s tons to do for all our artsy types. Check out the art, relax in the library and research room, and shop til you drop in the gallery shop. After your eyes have had their fill, fill up your belly at the Art Café and enjoy an Italian coffee. Soak up those artsy vibes for inspiration!

A bit of backstory

Back in the day, the regional gallery was housed in the former Renaissance villa of Johann Liebieg Jr., but the space wasn’t enough. So the gallery got moved to the former spa and now you get double the art inspiration.

Did you know the former spa was built between 1901 and 1902? The spa lived its best life ‘til the 1980s, when it fell into hard times and changed owners so many times we lost track. Fortunately, in 2005, the city won the spa at a public auction. Once the city took over they did all the necessary repairs to revive the building and bring it back to its true beauty. So get over there and enjoy!

  • In the gallery you will find art connected with the Liberec region. The space is dedicated to old as well as modern art, as well as architecture or photography.
  • Inside the museum you can find an exhibition presenting mainly the art of German-speaking authors of the first half of the 20th century from Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia.
  • The gallery has a lifelong art collection donated by the Liberec businessman and patron Heinrich Liebieg to the Liberec Museum. There is also a section dedicated to Heinrich Liebieg and his family.
  • The gallery is English speaking friendly and many of the exhibits will have English descriptions.
