One of the most popular zoos in the Czech Republic! Zlin Zoo is unique for its chateau and Japanese garden.
Zlin Zoo is just 10 km away from Zlin’s city centre. Home to animals of all kinds and the charming Chateau Lešná, the zoo is a good choice for families and couples. Zlin Zoo is also known for its large botanical gardens and its thousands of plants.
Kid friendly
A trip to the zoo is a classic family outing, but don’t stop at just watching the penguins and strolling the children around to the chateau. Animal lovers and kids can be zoo keepers for a day, help to feed the animals, or take a guided tour of the zoo to learn as much as they can about the animals. There are also plenty of play areas and picnic spaces where you can round off your family day out.
- Animals to see: Zlin Zoo has animals from around the world, including Africa, Asia, Australia and America. That means you get to see everything from elegant swans, cute emus and red pandas, to the unique Malayan tapirs.
- Botanical garden: the highlight of the zoo’s garden is the Japanese garden Mu-Shin. The trees were imported directly from Japan. It’s a little slice of Japan right in the Czech Republic! The Mexico garden is also pretty with tons of cacti that looks great in the summer.
- The animal enclosures are quite large. The zoo also contributes to conservation efforts through education, protection, and releasing animals into the wild. The zoo generally has good reviews from animal lovers.
Tips and Tricks
- There are multiple restaurants and bars on site, though some are only open seasonally.
- The animals are fed at different times during the day starting with the penguins at 9:30 and ending with the Malyaian tapirs at 15:00. Animal feedings can be seen everyday during July and August, but only at weekends in May, June and September.
- Bikes can be parked at the main entrance. We highly recommend bringing a bike lock as it’s not secured.
- Stick around in Chateau Lešná for a bit and you might be lucky enough to see another guest play the free public piano. Or try it out yourself and put on a show!
- Family friendly: strollers are available for rent at the main entrance. Restaurants Tyrol, Neapolitáno and Farma u Koaly have changing tables in the toilets.

- By Bus: close to bus stop Zlín, Lešná, ZOO zadní vstup. Buses 823141, 823441, and 823442 stop here.
