Tour the ruins of Fort Loncin. The sort is a WWI historical landmark.

Destroyed and left in ruin in WWI, Fort de Loncin is a unique historic sight of Liege. One of twelve forts that once protected the city, Fort de Loncin is now a place of remembrance. Walk the fort grounds to uncover Belgium’s history of struggle. See a bomb crater up close and walk the steps of Allied soldiers. A must for history lovers!

While most of the ruins aren’t accessible, you can still enter and wander most of the site. From bunkers to weapons rooms and monuments, Fort de Loncin offers a history packed experience. Pick up the audio guide to learn all about the fort’s story.

  • Guided tour: the fort is run by a team of volunteers. You can get a guide during April to October to take you through this historic place and get the full story. The guide takes you to parts of the fort you can’t normally visit. Any other time you or if you just want to go at your own pace, pick up the audio guide.
  • Museum: aside from the fort itself, there’s also a little museum to visit. Focused on WWI history, you’ll see soldiers' uniforms and personal items, weapons, a letter from a German general, and more.
  • Place of history: On a quiet evening in August the fort, the HQ of General Leman, was attacked by German forces. The year was 1914. The German army fired a massive shell that landed, tragically, into a vault of powder. It caused a big explosion that killed 350 soldiers. The ruins of Fort Loncin are their final resting place.

  • By Car: on street free parking.
  • By Bus: 4 min walk from LONCIN Fort bus stop. Buses 75 and 84 stop here.
  • By Train: 30 min walk from Ans station or 12 mins on the bus.
