Georgia is a rather mountainous country, home to some of Europe’s highest mountain peaks. It also presents a large mix of other landscapes and micro-climates, ranging from dry wine-growing valleys in the east, to lush Black Sea resorts in the west. Georgia is known for cities with narrow side streets, mangled and twisted stairways, and majestic old churches, some of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. To get to the more remote regions of Georgia without a tour company, you can rely on buses and taxis up to a certain point, where it becomes necessary to hike, catch a ride on a goods-transporting truck, or hire a jeep. Catching a lorry requires that you are flexible in your travel plans. Hiring a jeep can actually be quite expensive because of the high cost of gas, especially in remote areas. To find out about either option, ask around at the bus station or central market of the last town on the bus or marshrutka line.

Step in the world of the oldest 16th-century Numisi wine cellar located in the small village of Velistsikhe, Kakheti region. The cellar is built in ancient classical architecture with white river stones and bricks.

Wine Cellar Numisi, Kakheti

The Wings For Life World Run is truly a unique and global race for both runners and wheelchair participants, this is one of the world’s largest charity events ever kicked off. Here runners of all abilities are pacing the pavement to raise a money for research into the Spinal Cord Injuries. This is from where the slogan comes from : “run for those, who can’t”. In Georgia it is already 5th year, that this event takes place. In the Kakheti region about 30,000 Georgians, ex-pats and tourists flocked to take part in the Wings for Life World Run. This event has happened simultaneously around the world.

Velistsikhe is a village in Georgia. It is located in the Gurjaani Municipality of Kakheti. In 2002, its population was 6,385. It is located 380 metres (1,250 ft) above sea level.
