The Abaton, one of the first program cinemas in Germany, has stood for a demanding, regularly awarded film program from all over the world since 1970. In addition to European feature films and documentaries, a selected children's program is shown daily at 3 pm - and always without advertising! English films usually run in the original version with German subtitles (OmU).
The interested public can also talk to the filmmakers. Celebrity guests like to be in the Abaton at over 200 premieres and special performances a year. These include German and international directors such as Fatih Akin, Andreas Dresen, Christian Petzold, Pedro Almodóvar, Mike Leigh and Wim Wenders as well as actors such as Burghart Klaußner and Martina Gedeck.
