The Nordhorn zoo is 430,000 visitors a year, one of the most popular trips, near the Dutch border. In a zoo of 12 hectares, 2000 animals live in 100 different species.
To bring the visitors and the animals as close as possible, many stays are made accessible. Via the nature trail at the Vechte-arm, which runs on poles through a forest along the old arm of the Vecht, you will reach the historic Vechtehof farm. The over 100 years old, original farmhouse with farm garden is a true attraction of the family animal garden. The Vechtehof houses many different old, partly highly endangered pet breeds. Absolute visitor magnet is the place with the piglets of the bearded Bentheimer pig, which you can punch. For a first break, visit the cozy restaurant "De MalleJan" with the Colonial warehouse. Here you will enjoy, in a historic setting of hearty burger fare or a delicious icecream. In the center of the zoo is the large playground. This borders the cafeteria with a beautiful sun terrace and the children's farm with goats and sheep. If the weather is not so beautiful, the indoor playground "Max-Avonturenland" offers many play possibilities of natural materials, a result for big and small children.
