The Franz Marc Museum was founded in 1986 in Kochel a. See founded to portray the life and work of Franz Marc in the landscape that has shaped him as a painter. Since 2008, Franz Marc's work has been shown from a broader perspective in a new building: the protagonist and namesake of the museum is deliberately placed in the context of 20th-century art. Marc enters into a dialogue with painters such as Paul Klee, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Max Pechstein, Erich Heckel and Max Beckmann, as well as with artists such as Joseph Beuys and Georg Baselitz. Parallel to the special exhibitions, the museum exhibits important works by Franz Marc, the "Blaue Reiter", the "Brücke", Paul Klees, as well as the German and French postwar abstraction.

Just an hour away from Munich and nestled in a picturesque natural backdrop, the museum is a worthwhile destination in every season. An extensive museum educational program and public guided tours on the weekend complete the exhibitions.
