The Golf Club Oberfranken e. V. was founded in 1965. As an area suitable for a golf course, an area consisting of sheep pastures and oak forests near the picturesque town of Thurnau was long-term leased by the owner, Baron Hiller von Gaertringen. On it emerged 1968 in the 1st construction section today's holes 10 to 18, planned by golf course architect Dr. Bernhard of Limburger. In 1984, the expansion to the holes 1 to 9 by the architect Donald Harradine, so that since 1985 an international standard corresponding 18-hole golf course is available.
In addition to the golf course there is a practice area with driving range with partially covered tees, putting and pitching greens with practice bunkers. The new building of today's clubhouse in 1991 with restaurant, pro shop, changing rooms and storage rooms for golf equipment marks another highlight in the history of our club.
In 2003, the Golf Club Oberfranken took advantage of the offer of the previous owner, Baron Hiller of Gaertringen, and acquired the entire golf course area of approximately 68 ha. This makes our club one of the few golf clubs in Germany that can practice golf on its own land ,
Today, the Golf Club Oberfranken presents itself as the leading golf club in Upper Franconia.
