Sellin Pier, also known as Seebrücke Sellin, is a must-visit attraction in the charming Baltic seaside resort of Sellin on the picturesque island of Rügen. With its rich history, stunning architecture, and breathtaking views, the pier offers a unique experience for visitors of all ages.

A Journey Through Time

Sellin Pier has a fascinating history that dates back to the early 20th century. The first pier, measuring 508 meters in length, was constructed in 1906 to accommodate the growing number of tourists flocking to the area. In 1925, a new pier was built, featuring a platform and a concert hall, extending approximately 500 meters into the Baltic Sea. Sadly, this structure fell victim to severe ice conditions during the winter of 1941/1942. Despite the destruction, the bridge house survived and became a popular dance hall from the 1950s to the 1970s.

A Symbol of Resilience

Sellin Pier's story doesn't end there. In 1991, the President of Germany, Richard von Weizsäcker, visited Sellin, sparking a wave of support for the pier's reconstruction. Reconstruction efforts began in 1992, based on models of the original buildings from 1906 and 1925. On December 20, 1997, Sellin honorary citizen Hans Knospe symbolically cut the ribbon, marking the handover of the newly rebuilt pier. Finally, on April 2, 1998, the official opening took place, showcasing the restored pier and its restaurant.
