The Belfry of Bergues, symbol of this town located in the North department, dominates the town hall and the surrounding area. It is the most famous attraction of the city. Its construction began in the thirteenth century. It had to be rebuilt a first time in the 14th century, after the French invasion of 1383, and again in the 16th century. At the top of the belfry there is a carillon of 50 bells that ring for Monday market and other Festivities, such as the famous Carnaval.
