Often referred to as the “city of joy”, Kolkata was the capital of British India from 1771 to 1911. Famous for its carnivals and celebrations, West Bengal is hosts some of the most interesting festivals in India – Durga Puja, Push Mela and Gangasagar Mela.

The Jorbangla Temple is a great instance of not just Bishnupur's famous terracotta art but also of the Chala style of architecture, typical of Bengal. It is a must-visit.
