Banyuwangi, East Java

Banyuwangi is a small but strategically located town in East Java. It is the base for climbing the increasingly famous Kawah Ijen caldera, the maritime link to Bali, and the access point to some of the best national parks in Indonesia. Additionally, it is a hub of East Javanese animism: shamans are common, and on improtant dates various magic ceremonies take place in nearby villages.
