The reserves
Nature reserves of Lake Tarsia and the Mouth of the river Crati, in the province of Cosenza, Calabria Region have been set up by the Association on a proposal environmentalist Friends of the Earth Italy in 1990 and affect two important wetlands located along the course of the homonymous River: Lake Tarsia, in the territory of the municipalities of Tarsia and St. Sofia of Epirus and the mouth of the river Crati, in the municipalities of Corigliano Calabro and Cassano lonio. The extension of the two areas is about 600 hectares. The two reserves, for unique regional institution today, are moist areas of natural interest, especially for the presence of migratory water birds, many of which are nesting, such as the white stork taken as a symbol of the Reserves.
Reserves are also Sites of Community Importance (SCI) for the Natura 2000 network, under the Habitats Directive (92/43 / EC).
The management of the two protected areas has been assigned to environmental protection "Friends of the Earth Italy".
