Located in the historic center of the city of Grosseto, the Museum of Natural History of the Maremma (formerly the Museum of Natural History of Grosseto) covers three floors: two exhibition and one dedicated to the museum activities.

The Museum presents itself as a cultural center and a place for dialogue between the scientific community and the public, by means of guided tours, educational activities, special projects, exhibitions, conferences, conventions, ... The articulation of the rooms is based on two main styles: a more "classical" treatment, inspired by the systematic or chronological criteria (in line with the most common logic in the abiotic samples exposure) and a descriptive approach of habitats and their ecological relationships. In both cases, the exhibits are released from a static context and given a more modern and communicative dimension. The simultaneous use of different display types (panels, showcases, dioramas, multimedia workstations) results in a communicative model complex, differentiated by subject and type of user.

Along the exhibition are often alternated detailed information on the exposed samples and analysis on topics of general interest. This allows you to simultaneously create an exhaustive treatment of the reality of their specific environmental context, without giving the description of general topics, often preparatory to the correct understanding of other concepts.

A further cornerstone of the museum are the training islands, important support elements and depth to the simple guided tour. These are spaces physically distinct from the exhibition structures, within which students can attend lectures on specific topics and develop direct experience, through the manipulation of samples. The additional classes are well positioned next to a guided tour of the exhibition rooms or constitute an independent teaching tool, placed in the context of a thematic course of study. Structure and location of the training islands not impede the normal use of the tour, allowing the simultaneous pursuit of educational activities and visits (with or without guide).
