The Viale di Bolgheri, the Borgo di Castagneto, the childhood home of Carducci, and the Torre di Donoratico are the very essence of this literary park. Exploring these locations with the right emotional disposition can become a truly sentimental journey.
The concept of "Parchi Letterari" (Literary Parks) was born from the visionary mind of Stanislao Nievo, a writer and novelist, who established the Ippolito Nievo Foundation in 1992 with the support of UNESCO. The Parco Letterario Giosue Carducci, established in 1995 through a collaboration between the Municipality of Castagneto Carducci, the Ippolito Nievo Foundation, and Legambiente Toscana, is the only literary park in Tuscany and one of the most dynamic in Italy.
Managed by the Associazione Culturale Messidoro since 1998, the Parco Letterario Giosue Carducci offers a range of fascinating sites to explore. The Centro di Valorizzazione "Casa Carducci" is a must-visit destination within the park. Opened to the public in 1992, this center aims to evoke the deep affection that Carducci held for Castagneto Carducci. It was in this town that Carducci's father, Michele Carducci, practiced medicine from 1838 to 1849. The center showcases the family's former residence and provides insights into the poet's life and connections to the area.
Another highlight of the Parco Letterario is the Museo Archivio G. Carducci, located at Via Carducci 1. This museum houses a collection of artifacts, manuscripts, and personal belongings of the poet, offering visitors a glimpse into his creative process and literary achievements.
