The Visconti bridge is a fortress which spans the river Mincio and it was erected by Gian Galeazzo Visconti, lord of Milan, who succeded the Della Scala Family. The bridge is part of the defensive system (consisting of walls and towers) known as the “serraglio”, built by Mastino II della Scala. It is eight miles in length and starting from the river Mincio, it links the Gerla and Villafranca and ends at the source of the rivers Tartaro and Tione.
