Santuario di Santa Maria di Piazza

The Sanctuary of Santa Maria di Piazza is located in the center of Busto Arsizio the site of a previous church dedicated to Our Lady. This beautiful sanctuary was constructed rapidly between 1515 and 1522. Inside you can admire the statue of the Madonna and Child Enthroned with revered by bustocco as "Our Lady of Help". Tradition has it that the statue is carried through the village April 28, 1630 raised his right hand to stop the deadly disease plague, which had already taken away almost half the population. The unexplained termination of the infection was interpreted as miraculous intercession of the Virgin that was since then invoked as Our Lady of Help.
