Located in the centre of the old town, this palace is home to the Grand Ducal family.

The Grand Ducal Palace was once Luxembourg City’s first town hall, dating back to 1418. After the town hall was destroyed in 1554, it was rebuilt 20 years later in 1574. The wrought-iron balustrade built in 1741 still exists today, and in the mid-18th-century a Baroque-style building enlarged the town hall. Then, in 1890, the Chamber of Deputies was constructed, and in the early 1990s, the palace underwent a major renovation.

The Palace was originally a fortified castle, but as it expanded and developed over time, it was converted into the official residence for the Grand Duke of Luxembourg.

The current structure of the Palace portrays beautiful Flemish Renaissance architecture. 75-minute tours of the palace are offered in the summer months. See soldiers marching to protect the palace, explore the dining room, the Duke’s office, and more! The Grand Duke's residence is also home to an impressive art collection, including works by Rubens, Botticelli, and Rembrandt.

There have also been many royal weddings and events that have taken place at the Palace throughout history.
