Take a train, walk, or cycle across the Luxembourg Viaduct.
Built in the late 19th-century, the Luxembourg Viaduct was one of the first major structures of the city’s railway system. The Passerelle is spread across the Alzette and Pétrusse rivers while connecting the two halves of the city. Today, the Viaduct is a popular tourist destination and transportation route. This stop provides stunning views of the city so feel free to take a walk or bike across to get the full experience.
The intricate brickwork and arches gives the Passarelle a unique appearance. The brickwork is also noted for its precision and uniformity when it was constructed. The arches provide support for the railway track.
It has been renovated and refurbished over the years to maintain structural integrity, and safety, and ensure its use as a railway viaduct for pedestrians and trains. The piers that support the arches are made of masonry and are able to resist the lateral forces that are created by the trains passing overhead.
