A medieval fortress located in the town of Vianden.
On the site of a previous Roman fort, the castle was first constructed in the 11th century, and it has since been strengthened and expanded by numerous owners throughout the years. The castle started to deteriorate in the 19th century, and it wasn't until the 1970s that major renovations started to bring it back to its former splendour. The prominent House of Orange-Nassau, which dominated the Netherlands and had authority in Luxembourg, once called Vianden Castle home.
In addition, the castle has a number of turrets and walls that provide stunning views of the surrounding countryside, including the Our River and the small village of Vianden.
The tops of the towers are accessible for panoramic views, and visitors can also stroll along the ramparts to take in the vista. Vianden Castle is not only known for its historical significance but also for its breathtaking vistas and host to a number of cultural events throughout the year, including mediaeval festivals, classical music performances, and art exhibitions.
