Travel to Africa as you wander the museum. See the architecture, African history, and much more.

  • Just a short journey from Nijmegen, the Africa Museum is a museum all about (you guessed it!) Africa. The highlight of this museum is definitely its recreations of African spaces outside the museum, though the exhibits inside are interesting too.
  • The museum has exhibits on the various identities of Africa (including and not limited to): Afro-Caribbean, Afro-American, tribes of Ghana, and many more. A visit is a great way to introduce the kids to cultures of the world or to learn more about African culture yourself. This museum has exhibits on everything from fashion to religion. It’s a pretty wide variety in a small space, though not the deepest insight if you’re a major history buff - this is more a basic introduction to African culture.
  • Kid friendly: the Africa Museum does have activities for kids. At the entrance desk, you can pick up a free activity pack to help kids learn as they go through the museum. They also hold regular workshops, including ones on African music.
