On top of the mall there is something that is hard to miss.

Artist Lily van der Stokker made a very big teapot for on top of the parking garage of Hoog Catharijne Mall, and it is definitely an eye-catcher. She wanted to add some gezelligheid in a commercial area, and glorify the intimate everyday life between all the construction work of the station area and business world.

That’s why she decided to create a big version (7 metres high!) of this item that is used during high teas.

The name ‘Celestial Teapot’ comes from a philosopher called Betrand Russell. He said the following in 1952: "If I were to say that there's a china teapot floating around in space somewhere, but it's too small to see, no one can prove me wrong." In this way he wanted to discuss the existence of God and stated that everybody is free to believe whatever they want to believe.

For Lily van der Stokker fun, optimism and friendliness are three important factors. Just decorating dull things with colours, doodles and decorative shapes should be enough, because why does art always have to be deep?
